On November 15, 1991, the Kalibek Kuanyshbayev State Academic Kazakh Music and Drama Theater in Astana opened its doors with G. Musrepov's tragedy "Akan Seri-Aktokty." The first production was staged by the talented director and founder of the theater, Zhakyp Omarov. The theater received its first prize in Ufa at the Tuganlyk International Theater Festival among Turkic-speaking states in 1996. The sacred Shanyrak, which today reflects the spiritual needs of the nation, was led by such talented artists as Zhakyp Omarov, Kadyr Zhetpisbayev, and People's Artist of the Soviet Union, "Khalyk Kaharmany" Azerbaijan Mambetov. The repertoire of the Kalibek Kuanyshbayev State Academic Kazakh Music and Drama Theater Kalibek Kuanyshbayev's theater is constantly updated and enriched by national and international dramaturgy. The company has clear guidelines, shaped by participation in several theater festivals both domestically and internationally. This is the revival of Kazakh theater art, a showcase of the pinnacle of art from the past and present. On December 14, 2011, the theater company was awarded the status of "State Academic Theater." The State Academic Kazakh Drama Theater named after K. Kuanyshbayev, the same age as independence, celebrates its 30th anniversary this year. In 2020, at the initiative of the First President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Elbasy Nursultan Nazarbayev, and with the support of the head of state, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, a new theater building was constructed, which will adorn the capital's majestic architecture. This is a reflection of the state's special commitment to the arts.
